return of 6% on its capital; or, as a last alternative,

to take over the three vessels at market value. Unless

such were done, the shareholders of the Company would

be deprived of a regular source of income, on which some

of them depend entirely for their livelihood. They

cannot believe that it is the deliberate intention of

His Majesty's Government, in whatever circumstance, to

subject them to such condition; rather do they believe

that the hardship which they are now undergoing has been

caused by a general system applied indiscriminately to

different sets of conditions. They are sure, now that

their distressing position is clearly put before it, the

Government will lose no time in effecting its ameliora-

tion.

I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your obedient servant,

Sanchupals

Managing Director,

The Cheong Yue Steamship Co.,Ltd.
